The blacksmith Erich Nüchter (1903-1989) discovered his artistic streak at an early age. Trained as a locksmith and blacksmith in Augsburg, he enrolled at the Augsburg School of Art in 1920 and studied painting there under Hans Döllgast (1891-1974) and Karl Rupflin (1889-1973), among others. His particular fondness for caricature and his constant practice of blacksmithing meant that he was able to transform the material iron into a fine artistic form with great skill and precision. He always developed his lively figures and motifs in drawings and translated them into three-dimensional form on the anvil.

The exhibition shows around 40 forged works and drawings, including two major works, the Fugger train and the nativity scene. Visitors can vividly follow the path from the artistic idea to the finished work of artistic blacksmithing.

We cordially invite all interested parties to the opening on Thursday, 13 November 2025, at 6 pm, in the dining room of the Schaezlerpalais.
