With "Muse", the Glyptothek is presenting the first solo exhibition by Milanese artist Luca Pignatelli
in a German museum.
Pignatelli has long been one of Italy's hottest contemporary artists. His unusual visual language captivates people in exhibitions worldwide. His art stems from an incessant process of exploring, appropriating and reusing objects, images, forms and codes. The artist connects these through analogies, contrasts and contaminations, thus following his very own vision of a flowing, even circular time.
For the exhibition in the Glyptothek, with its world-famous marble sculptures, Luca Pignatelli has selected works that are mostly unusual and grandiose depictions of ancient goddesses, rulers or mythological figures. These modern creations are the result of careful reflection on tradition and the past and now enter into a dialogue with the original witnesses of artistic perfection from the bygone world of the Greeks and Romans. The combination of serenity and melancholy, classicism and modernity, beauty and grace creates a feeling of eternity and infinity.
