Sampling. Ergül Cengiz and Christian Wichmann
08.10.2025 - 20.02.2026 ,
Galerie Bezirk Oberbayern (Gallery District Upper Bavaria)
Ergül Cengiz and Christian Wichmann incorporate structures, shapes and colours from different cultures into their art. Ergül Cengiz uses patterns from Islamic ornamentation. Christian Wichmann uses used toys and translucent recycled materials from his everyday life. This results in sculptures and pictures with a special effect that make us think about our lives and our society.
Ergül Cengiz deals with personal, art-historical and social themes, which she processes artistically in various media.
Her large-format wall installation is made up of an endless network of map cut-outs to which she adds ornamental patterns and structures using linoleum printing. The work deals with questions of origin, identity and borders. Her works in the gallery exhibition actively involve the audience.
Christian Wichmann's luminous sculptures awaken the imagination. They are assembled from objects such as ice moulds, tubes, cable ties and acrylic glass. They seem to grow out of the wall and floor. The shapes and structures of the light sculptures with their colourful patterns are reminiscent of mysterious creatures or technical devices. At the same time, they symbolise questions about man's use of resources.
