Mélanie Richet learnt straw marquetry at the Ateliers Lison de Caunes in Paris and later the bead wrapping technique from Silke Seibt, a master basket maker and wickerwork designer.
She interprets straw marquetry (inlay work made from straw) and the bead wrapping technique (weaving technique) - two old and rare crafts - in her own way. She mainly uses straw as a base material, coloured or not, a versatile material that fascinates her. Mélanie Richet follows the same approach with both techniques: from tradition to transformation. She anchors her work in the present with a view to the future, both through the aesthetics of her works and through the questions that underlie them.
In the Art in the Open-Air Museum series, launched in 2021, artists from the region present their works in the special setting of the historic museum buildings.

Exhibition venue and opening hours
The exhibition can be seen during the regular opening hours of the museum in the Truchsess House in Oberhohenried.
