Whether Lego, Anker, Fischer Technik or Märklin, since their invention around 1800, building blocks and building sets have made a triumphal march into children's rooms. Countless generations have built their future dream houses, aeroplanes, gardens and the like according to plan or imagination.

From the very beginning, wooden blocks served as a play and learning tool. Even back then, a building set had to have standardised individual parts, be variable in assembly and disassembly and require a minimum level of construction skills. Over the course of the 19th century, the popularity of this particular toy increased enormously. The invention of stone building sets, especially the Anker stone building set, contributed significantly to this. The growing demand for building possibilities led to the development of the metal building set in the early 20th century. Brands such as Meccano and Märklin now enjoy great popularity. In the middle of the 20th century, the plastic construction set was added. The Danish company LEGO, which leads the market today with its plug-in Noppenstein, was there from the very beginning.

The Fichtelgebirgsmuseum (Fichtel Mountains Museum) and other lenders have made over 100 of these fascinating children's toys available for this exhibition. Of course, there is also a play area for children and the young at heart.

The exhibition is a co-operation project with the Spielzeugmuseum im Alten Schloss Sugenheim (Toy Museum in the Old Castle) and the Knauf-Museum (Knauf Museum) in Iphofen.
