Self-taught artists from the periphery of society produce "unadulterated" art beyond the mainstream. The French artist Jean Dubuffet coined the term Art Brut for this genre after the Second World War. Every artist follows a vision, mission or obsession. The interplay of extremely individualised formal languages and mythologies reflects the uniqueness and diversity of Art Brut. The exhibition creates a space in the sense of a protected biotope in which viewers can expect emotionally meaningful experiences.
