Our society is currently experiencing a time of upheaval and change that forces us to rethink and help shape the future. Against this backdrop, the exhibition "Transitions: Jewish Perspectives on the Present" presents works by Jewish artists that explore this state of "in-between".
Nine international artists are showing multimedia works ranging from videos and photographs to sound art. These address different aspects of social change and highlight both the challenges and the potential that this brings: What impact do social changes have on our own lives? How does coexistence work in a diverse and interconnected world? Which traditions should be preserved? And what role does the public culture of remembrance play in successful coexistence? The works also reflect the fact that there are also different positions on current developments and discourses within the Jewish community.
The artworks shown in the exhibition were created before the attack on Israel by the Islamist Hamas on 7 October 2023, but the questions they raise have not lost any of their topicality. Looking at the reactions to 7 October and the latest statistics on anti-Semitism and racism, the question of how we want to live together in the future is more pressing than ever.
