The exhibition "Sehnsuchtsblaue Ferne! - August Seidel and companions", an extensive show on 19th century landscape painting will run from December 2023 to May 2024. In a conscious move away from the academy of arts, from the turn of the century onwards many artists set out into nature with a canvas and palette in tow.

The Alpine foothills in particular became a place of longing and a destination for many artists, including Munich painter August Seidel. In the style of romantic realism, he captured scenes in the countryside around Munich. The exhibition presents Seidel's extensive oeuvre while also highlighting the landscape paintings of his well-known companions such as Adolf Lier, Christian Morgenstern, Carl Spitzweg, Eduard Schleich the Elder and Albert Zimmermann.
