Once in space and back

An exhibition with works by the current art scholarship holder Boban Andjelkovic. Garishly colourful, sometimes grotesque and winkingly humorous, his works enter into a dialogue with the viewer. Andjelkovic sees himself in the tradition of "bad painting" and deliberately does not want to paint "beautiful" pictures. Behind the motifs, which may seem naïve at first glance, lies a critical and reflective attitude and an awareness of current social phenomena. Boban Andjelkovic's neo-expressive painting is characterised by an intensive examination of pop-cultural and art-historical themes. Critics have often addressed Andjelkovic's ability to develop a "poetic space" as a parallel intervention to the real world. Unconstrained, playful, with abandoned colours and here and there dedicated to superheroes, his work has a seductive effect.
