Several portraits from three centuries have been lying dormant in the Deutsches Hirtenmuseum (German Shepherd Museum) in Hersbruck for 90 years. Back then, before the museum was founded, they were shown here in a first exhibition. On display were 273 historical portraits owned by Hersbruck citizens, in the form of oil paintings, silhouettes and photographs. Later, a large part of the pictures became the property of our museum.

Now, in our 90th anniversary year, we are presenting impressive pieces from this collection. You will see special objects that were left to the museum by families and testify to how important it was to people at that time to have their objects preserved and displayed for all to see - and specifically in "their museum".

Where would the objects be today? Certainly most of them would no longer be preserved without the idea of founding a museum at that time. So our anniversary exhibition "People and their Museum" is made today for their descendants and is sure to amaze them!
