Philipp Tim Selig is a young, innovative object artist from Nuremberg who spends a lot of his time recultivating the supposedly worthless and instils new life into things that have been spurned through attention. What drives him is the question of value and worth - of time and labour. Especially because he works in the figurative. "First I find something and then I make something out of it" - this is how he briefly formulates his artistic self-image.
But it's not quite that simple: because what he finds is pretty much left to chance and then gives rise to further thoughts in order to create a completely new work of art.
In the end, sculptures emerge that embody a mixture of representatives of himself and friends. They are touching figures that he brings to life, often with funny, often tender stories and personalities. Figures with whom you can have conversations. There is always a great deal of the artist's personality in them.
As a rule, he tries to formulate stories; installations with his extras that open up a world through material and form into which you can tell yourself.
Philipp Tim Selig trained as a building materials tester and earns his living in the field of geotechnics. He studied fine arts at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste (Academy of Fine Arts) in Nuremberg and was a master student of Prof Marko Lehanka.
