Art goes astray ... and enchants
Childcare label or amulet for a boy
25.07.2023 - 05.11.2023 ,
Museen Schloss Aschach (Museums Aschach Castle)
Birth is an extraordinary moment for both mother and child, and there are many rituals surrounding it. In Jewish culture, people were afraid of Lilith, the first wife of Adam, who, according to popular belief, could kill newborn children. According to legend, Lilith left Adam because she did not want to submit to him. Amulets or childbed slips were supposed to protect the mother and baby from Lilith's influence. There were amulets for girls and for boys. The design varies, but the texts are similar.
The Museen Schloss Aschach (Museums Aschach Castle) display the exhibit in the Blue Salon. The cradle of the count's sons stood there.
