Art goes astray ... and enchants
Christ on the cross

The crucified Saviour is one of the central themes of Christian and especially Catholic art. In their religious context, crucifixes symbolise three enchantments at the same time. On the one hand, the enchantment of the body of Christ, who at the moment of his death is transformed from the earthly Son of Man into the heavenly Son of God. On the other hand, the enchantment of the spirit of the faithful, who are enraptured into their innermost spitituality when looking at the cross and praying to the crucified one - and finally, the amazement of the minds of observers of other faiths at the sight of this central cult relic of the Christian religion.
The Miltenberg crucifix is positioned in front of the altar in the Museum Johanniskapelle as a central element in the church interior.
