The history of Trostberg has always been characterised by the Alz. It was a lifeline, an essential resource and a threat to existence at the same time. Its water power was the basis for many trades in Trostberg, such as mills, sawmills, tanneries and cloth mills, as well as for the establishment of industry in the town. However, the floods of the river, which was largely unregulated for a long time, also repeatedly caused major economic and existential damage. The exhibition uses illustrative maps and pictures to show the shape, effects and utilisation of the Alz over the past centuries.
