"Hofer Hundeleben" provides a cultural-historical insight into the eventful coexistence between dogs and humans in the region: from the two pugs of Margravine Wilhelmine in the 18th century to the dog-drawn carts of the Hofer butcher's shops around 1900 to the GDR border dogs on the inner-German border and today's assistance and rescue dogs.
The various Hofer dog clubs of the past and present are also presented, as well as people from the city and district who are professionally involved with dogs. And not to be forgotten are the numerous exciting, bizarre or rare objects related to dogs - some from the museum's own collection, some on loan from other museums or from private individuals, such as a dog joke jar from around 1700, a princely hunting dog collar, a historical dog carriage, the Wackeldackel from the public order office of the city of Hof or a modern anti-snare food bowl from Schönwald.
