With a few strokes and precise observations, the American artist Grace Weaver (born 1989) tells of the everyday life of a young, mostly female generation that obviously lives in the city. The young women play sports, meet each other or sometimes carry the rubbish down the stairs.
The artist gives these casual scenes a great presence through her choice of cut-outs and close-ups. In this way, she succeeds in creating snapshots typical of the time, which at the same time tell us a lot about the self-image and self-confidence, but also the loneliness of her protagonists. Grace Weaver's unique painting style creates a light and at the same time enigmatic approach to the subjects.
The Brooklyn-based artist became known in Germany through her solo exhibitions in 2019 at Kunstpalais Erlangen and Kunstverein Oldenburg.
