For thousands of years, astronomers have observed the sky. The rising and setting of the stars, the planets and the Milky Way, the arrangement and movement of the stars were studied and measured. With this knowledge, we were able to divide our time, create calendars and orientate ourselves for travel. But what means did man use to achieve this?

The newly established department "Time and Space" shows the astonishingly precise observation and surveying instruments, models of the prevailing world views as well as solar and mechanical clocks from the 16th to the 18th century.
