Colours play a prominent role in Maja Vogl's weavings. Weaving with the traditional handloom, she is able to express her colour ideas. She usually chooses silk (schappe or reel silk), mercerised cotton or even paper as material, whereby the silk in particular gives the colours an intense luminosity. Her works include, for example, cushions, scarves, stoles and kimonos composed of individual panels.
In her woven works, there are sometimes filigree drawings, sometimes two completely different sides of one and the same fabric. For example, small squares appear or individual threads of a different colour appear in the middle of the fabric and then disappear again. Here Maja Vogl shows not only perseverance and accuracy but also the whole range of her technical skills.
Maja Vogl combines old craftsmanship and modern art and wants to counteract mass production and synthetically produced fabrics with her works.
