A museum was first established in the Altes Rathaus (Old city hall) in Hauptstraße in 1923. However, most of the exhibits were subsequently returned to their owner Franz Dörrzapf. After 1923, the presentation was also shown in the old jail in Hauptstraße and repeated attempts were made to set up the objects permanently in the Altes Rathaus (Old city hall). But due to the Second World War or for reasons of space, the objects had to be put into storage again. It was not until 1981 that the local history museum could be reopened under Georg Förtsch at its present location on the first floor of the former district court, which had been converted into a "Bürgerhaus" (community centre) as part of the millennium celebrations.
