The special exhibition takes visitors on a journey into an alien world whose remains lie buried beneath Munich and the Alpine foothills today: the landscape of the Upper Freshwater Molasse, a water-rich alluvial area 17 to 5 million years before our time.

Extraordinary fossils from various sites in Bavaria bring the fauna and flora of the Freshwater Molasse to life in the exhibition and bring it to life in large-scale landscape reconstructions by the well-known Spanish palaeoartist Mauricio Antón. A special highlight are the sensational finds of the great ape "Udo", discovered a few years ago, which are shown in the original. Experience how different Bavaria was back then in the special exhibition of the Jura Museum.
