very concrete 2. even more shape, colour & space
17.05.2025 - 28.09.2025 ,
Kunstpalais Erlangen (Erlangen Art Palace)
What do a composition of brightly coloured triangles, fragrant sculptures hanging from the ceiling and a colourful striped dachshund have to do with each other?
They are in the tradition of an art that does not depict anything, but creates something completely new with form, colour, space, line or surface: concrete art. After more than 100 years, the idea seems familiar - and outrageous at the same time! Because the detachment from depiction offers great freedom. The freedom to experiment with the parameters, to perceive and see with concentration, without interpreting. Concrete art has always been democratic: it works without prior knowledge - and without prejudices.
Whether in Minimal Art, Conceptual Art or Computer Art, whether in France, the USA or South America - the idea of Concrete Art spread far and wide. The influences, groupings and manifestos are diverse, interwoven and highly topical. Contemporary artists play with familiar principles, use unexpected materials and show a sporting spirit. And last but not least, the design of countless objects and logos that surround us is based precisely on this.
The exhibition ganz konkret 2 is a colourful, form-loving and surprising adventure on the playing field of Concrete Art! Here, works from the Städtisches Museum (Municipal Museum) Erlangen meet numerous loans from the Museum für Konkrete Kunst (Museum of Concrete Art) and the Ingolstadt Foundation for Concrete Art and Design.
