The artist couples Margarete and Oskar Moll and Mathilde and Hans Purrmann helped shape decisive moments in the development of the European avant-garde at the beginning of the 20th century. Shortly after 1900, they were already part of the movement in Berlin that gradually helped German Impressionism to become more expressive.
With around 70 works, the exhibition provides an overview of the oeuvre of the four artists.
artists. In addition, selected works by Lovis Corinth, Max Liebermann and Henri Matisse exemplify key sources of inspiration for the two couples, who were connected on various levels.
