Nuremberg - site of the Reich Party Rallies
Staging, experience and violence
01.10.2024 - 01.01.2026 ,
Dokumentationszentrum Reichsparteitagsgelände (Documentation Center Nazi Party Rally Grounds)
The Documentation Centre is being renovated and the previous permanent exhibition is currently closed. In the large exhibition hall, the interim exhibition "Nuremberg - Site of the Nazi Party Rallies. Staging, Experience and Violence" (bilingual DE/EN) presents the history of the Nazi Party Rallies and the grounds in a compact form.
The focus is on the Nazi Party Rally Grounds in terms of space and content. A large-format media installation "Topography in Transition" takes visitors on a journey through time from 1918 to the present day and provides an initial orientation of the extensive grounds. A kaleidoscope of images and plans places the site in its overall temporal and topographical context.
Four time periods grouped around the installation (1918-1933, 1933-1939, 1939-1945 and 1945 to 2020) illuminate the events on the Nazi Party Rally Grounds. For the first time, national history is told from a local perspective. Selected objects contribute to the collage-like picture, as do documents, films and photos. Numerous biographies and eyewitness accounts open up personal perspectives on the subject. The familiar is juxtaposed with the new, changing perspectives and explanatory approaches build on existing knowledge. Media stations emphasise the diversity of voices and invite visitors to form their own picture of history.
