Crisis. Art. Church. Continents.
Visions of Laudato si'
12.07.2025 - 04.11.2025 ,
DiözesanMuseum Bamberg (Diocesan Museum Bamberg)
How does the contemporary art scene of a continent interpret the issues of environmental and climate protection? Are there geographical perspectives on the pressing challenges of our time? What is jeopardising creation where in the world - floods, extreme heat or plastic waste? Or is there no crisis at all?
Six thematically topical works of art from Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America and Oceania each represent their continent and open up a discourse that shakes up common clichés. These global dynamics, which concern the importance of environmental responsibility and social justice, also reflect the Catholic Church's self-commitment as formulated in the encyclical Laudato si' on responsibility for creation. Various art genres impressively illustrate the continuing relevance of the topics addressed in the papal circular - in particular the contrast between privileged and disadvantaged living environments. An artistic exploration of global challenges and the role of the Church.
