A ruler with chalice, sword and sceptre, a rival king and a saint who tames a wild bear ..., this could be the stuff of a Hollywood blockbuster. For now, it is our story for Freising. In the Bavarian State Exhibition 2024, we will travel with you into the early Middle Ages. With Tassilo, Korbinian and the Bear, we go to a land that stretched far into South Tyrol, Upper Austria, Carinthia and Slovenia. A powerful kingdom was within reach at that time...
Let yourself be captivated by the stories of the treasure and fate of the Agilolfing Duke Tassilo III, with whom the Frankish King Charles took up arms. Who might be "the great one" from a Bavarian point of view? We are holding our state exhibition together with the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising in the new Diözesanmuseum (Diocesan Museum Freising) on the Domberg. For this purpose, we are opening up previously inaccessible Staterooms in the Residence and showing how the Baroque imagined the Bavarian beginnings: a unique show to mark the great anniversary of St. Corbinian.
