Ghosts cannot be clearly defined and have always exerted a great fascination on people. They exist in countless manifestations and imaginary worlds, including in puppet theatre. Where it is no longer possible to conceptualise ghosts, puppet theatre helps the imagination to take flight and gives shape to the intangible.
"Time for ghosts" at the Augsburg Puppentheatermuseum (Puppet Theatre Museum) - the new special exhibition focuses on ancestral spirits and spirits of the dead on the one hand and nature spirits on the other, reflecting the diversity of ghost species and their representation in puppetry. Loans from national and international puppet theatres show how ghost stories come to life and what eerily beautiful and fascinating creatures are created by puppetry.
Exhibits from other museums on the cult of ancestors and the dead in different cultures shed light on how the belief in spirits manifests itself in cultural practices.
An AI-animated ancestral gallery brings important ancestors from the city of Augsburg back to life: Anyone brave enough can make contact with the spirit world and hear Jakob Fugger, Elias Holl and Walter Oehmichen talk about their work.
