Between 1872 and 1885, over 200 theatre, opera and ballet performances were held in Munich's Residenz and National Theatres exclusively for King Ludwig II, the so-called Separate Performances. They offered the monarch the opportunity to escape from his everyday life and simulate more ideal worlds. He immersed himself in wishful thinking, let himself be whisked away to exotic and legendary scenarios, escaping reality for a few moments.
The Deutsches Theatermuseum (German Theatre Museum) traces these royal coping or overpowering strategies. In cooperation with the Munich Treasure Hunt, Ludwig's worlds can be experienced scenically.
