Ways of abstraction
Rainer Sollfrank
03.04.2025 - 09.06.2025 ,
Deutsches Knopfmuseum (German Button Museum)
The artist, who works both as a photographer and a painter, has presented his art since the 1990s not only regionally, in Tirschenreuth, Neustadt a. d. Waldnaab and Bayreuth, but also internationally in the Czech Republic and Slovenia. Born in Weiden, he is particularly well known in his adopted home of Kemnath for his unconventional approach to art.
His works, which can be seen in the current exhibition, are characterised by a strong abstraction. Sollfrank combines classical painting with modern digital photography, which he processes into so-called "Digi-Art" artworks. These works, in which he processes photographs on the PC and creates abstract structures, reflect his philosophy: art is more than just the depiction of reality. Sollfrank wants to give viewers the freedom to discover their own thoughts and associations in his pictures.
Rainer Sollfrank is a critical person whose works often contain social and political themes. In paintings such as "Earthquake" and "Where to?", for example, he explores the themes of migration, environmental destruction and global crises. For him, art is a way of communicating a deeper truth. "Art should be an acknowledgement of the forces of the dream," he explains. His abstract works encourage us to rely less on logic and reason and to open ourselves up to the unconscious and the imagination. The 78-year-old does not see himself as a classical artist, but as someone who expresses thoughts in the form of art.
The exhibition at the Knopf Museum offers visitors the opportunity to meet Sollfrank in person - he will be on site every Sunday to talk to visitors about his works.
