The marvellous lives in every creature of nature - Aristotle.

Jennifer Franzke is an artist, architect and associated scientist at the Naturhistorisches Museum (Natural History Museum) in Vienna. Her large-format watercolours explore the theme of nature invading civilisation, creating an atmosphere that is both solemn and apocalyptic. Franzke's depictions of animals not only come into contact with civilisation, they take possession of it. They symbolise species adaptation and co-dependent survival - not a celebration of nature in an abstract or transcendental sense, but a concrete presence.
