Bodo Meier could be described as an "Africa aficionado". In this exhibition, the lover of the tropical and subtropical regions of Africa impressively stages famous savannah protagonists such as lions, elephants and zebras.

His love for the animal world of the African continent began in early childhood. At a young age he began to document memories of zoo visits by creating small animal drawings. It was also the paintings of kindred spirits Wilhelm Kuhnert, Richard Friese and Wilhelm Eigener that repeatedly captivated him and shaped his art, as did the animal and hunting painter Willi Schütz, who ultimately led him to watercolours.

As a passionate animal lover, Bodo Meier observed wild animals in the wild and in zoological institutions and studied their peculiarities and character. The results are exciting watercolours that capture the peculiarities of individual animals as well as their coexistence in groups, sometimes dynamically and sometimes as portraits, inviting the viewer to engage with the animal world and the artist's palpable fascination with nature. Bodo Meier's watercolours are a window into untouched wildlife, allowing the savannah and its animals to become tangible. With their details and the flow of well-placed brushstrokes, they allow viewers to imagine themselves in the role of Grzimek and Brehms, as curious observers in the tall grass or from a hidden jeep. The mood of these special watercolours takes us on a journey into the wilderness of the African savannah.
