The Rhön is a low mountain range located in Bavaria, Hesse and Thuringia where wooden masks are worn at carnival and a remarkable variety of carnival revellers can be found. In the 1970s, Professor Friedrich Münch from Bonn collected material on the subject of carnival masks in the market town of Oberelsbach. His widow Christa Münch donated this collection to the Deutsches Fastnachtmuseum (German Carnival Museum) in Kitzingen in 2016, and it has now been scientifically processed and organised as an exhibition.

The special exhibition uses the Münch collection to bring the carnival hustle and bustle of the 1970s back to life. Photos, films and documents introduce the field researcher Friedrich Münch. Another part of the exhibition shows the creation of a wooden mask.
