To mark the 1000th anniversary of the town of Burghausen, sculptor Andreas Kuhnlein is moving into the 1051 metre long castle complex. Images of people made of hardwood, rough and jagged to the point of almost dematerialisation, are grouped together in prominent places in the castle or are waiting to be discovered behind a projection in the wall or in a secluded garden.

Kuhnlein's figures are an expression of the millennia-old system of power that is constantly renewing itself. Rulers, churchmen and elites stand opposite or together with farmers, craftsmen and merchants. Despite their respective functions in the overarching system, they all have one thing in common. Their humanity with its inherent brutality and vulnerability as well as the ever-present transience of each individual.
The outdoor exhibition is open 24 hours a day, admission is free.
