The artist couple Livia Kubach and Michael Kropp mostly use black granite from different regions of the globe in their work.
The structure of the processed stones is crystalline or amorphous, cut and polished or rough and with broken edges. The objects and sculptures initially fascinate with their special aesthetics. They convey calm and concentration and exert a strong, almost magical attraction on the viewer.
Beyond the fascination of the surface, however, Kubach & Kropp's works have optical and acoustic properties: they invite the viewer to follow the optical changes in the stone and the subtle play of light by changing position. And many are designed to elicit sounds, which can be demonstrated during guided tours.
Over the years, Livia Kubach, a graduate of the Düsseldorf Art Academy and master student of Günther Uecker, and Michael Kropp, a self-taught sculptor, have found an independent form of artistic expression that cannot be categorised as part of any trend.
Their sculptures have been successfully exhibited internationally for many years and have a permanent presence in many renowned art collections.
The sculptor couple live and work near Bad Kreuznach.
