The work of the painter Ruprecht von Kaufmann (* 1974) is one of the most important positions in contemporary figurative art. In his paintings, he stages a Theatrum Mundi of interior and exterior spaces with people, animals and chimeras as autonomous beings, even to the point of persiflage. They seem to act on the canvas as if in a dream, without acting. Top and bottom, front and back are often cancelled out. The supposed empty spaces in his paintings have a similar significance for our perception as the pauses in music and at the same time form metaphors for a "life between the chairs".
