Our senses are our gateway to the world. Through sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch, we engage with our surroundings, form memories and find our bearings in everyday life. We often only realise just how naturally we use these abilities when they are impaired or absent.
This year’s annual exhibition at the District Museum invites visitors to rediscover their own perceptions. Illustrative models provide fundamental insights into how our sensory organs work. Historical objects from the collection, as well as selected loans, demonstrate how our understanding and the significance of the senses have changed over time. Current issues – such as those arising from medical research into supporting or replacing human sensory functions – are also addressed.
Interactive stations offer visitors of all ages the opportunity to get involved, test their own senses and explore them in a playful way.
The exhibition is being organised as part of the annual theme ‘Senses’ of the ‘Landpartie – Museums around Munich 2026’ working group.
