The exhibition celebrates a discovery. The treasure book of the Regensburg Imperial Abbey of St Emmeram, unknown until recently, is being shown to the public for the first time. This splendid volume, created around 1750, presents the church treasure of the venerable Benedictine abbey in a colourful way with 72 large-format watercolour pen and ink drawings. It impressively conveys a vivid picture of the splendour of sacred decoration in the middle of the 18th century and thus represents a unique historical source from the Rococo period.

Treasures from churches and monasteries were sometimes documented in elaborately designed books due to their preciousness. The treasure book of St. Emmeram is all the more important because many of the gold and silver objects immortalised there were melted down in the course of secularisation. However, some precious pieces have been preserved and are on display in the exhibition together with magnificent liturgical vestments made of luxurious silk fabrics.

They can be admired in the special exhibition area on the upper floor.
