In 1781, Anton Will was appointed professor of veterinary medicine at the Bavarian State University of Ingolstadt and entrusted with the newly created chair of veterinary medicine. He thus became the founder of academic veterinary medicine in Bavaria. In 1790, the "Thier-Arzney School" was founded in Munich on his initiative. It became the nucleus of the veterinary faculty at the Ludwig Maximilian University, one of only five German universities where you can study veterinary medicine today.
The 550th anniversary of Ingolstadt University provides the occasion to trace the beginnings and paths of veterinary medicine in Bavaria. In cooperation with the Deutsches Medizinhistorisches Museum Ingolstadt (German Museum of Medical History) and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at LMU Munich, the Bauerngerätemuseum Hundszell (Farmer's tool museum Hundszell) highlights important aspects and striking developments in the history of veterinary medicine.
