Global food production systems are increasingly reaching their limits due to climate change, as well as overconsumption and the excessive waste of food. Many seas are overfished, fertile farmland is being built over or is eroding, and entire regions are being devastated due to a lack of rainfall. Through twelve current case studies, the exhibition presents the
complex systems of food production, processing and distribution. The focus is on Europe, but the networks almost always extend into a global context. The individual sections of the exhibition showcase the high-tech greenhouses being developed in the Netherlands, the competition for milk and meat in cattle sheds, the impact of
industrialised salmon farming, as well as the opportunities offered by indoor aquaculture and the importance of local fisheries in Portugal. Finally, the consequences of the war in Ukraine for UN aid deliveries are also presented, and a final chapter highlights the importance of soil as the foundation of almost all food.
