Original Dürer! Maria
25.11.2022 - 26.03.2023 ,
Albrecht-Dürer-Haus (Albrecht Dürer House)
The "Original Dürer!" series launched in 2021 on the occasion of Albrecht Dürer's 550th birthday will be continued with seven original prints on the theme of "Mary": From the holdings of the Graphic Arts Collection of the Museums of the City of Nuremberg, six copperplate engravings depicting Mary and a woodcut from Dürer's "Life of Mary" will be on display from 25 November.
The motifs of these innovative and technically brilliant works were created between 1499 and 1520 and sometimes show surprising and witty details, such as the moon face that seems to be peeking out from under Mary's robe, or an astonishingly brash Mary who is reminiscent of an Eve. If you look closely, you can discover objects on the woodcut of the "Birth of Mary" that can be found today in a very similar way in the rear "Wanderer Room II" on the first floor of the Albrecht-Dürer-Haus (Albrecht Dürer House). Friedrich Wilhelm Wanderer had them made at the end of the 19th century for the historicising furnishings of the Albrecht Dürer House, based on Dürer's graphic.
