Dorfmuseum im Pfannerhaus (Village museum in the Pfannerhaus)
When people think of porcelain, many still picture the familiar floral designs on picture plates, tiles and dinner services. The diverse exhibits by the artist and porcelain painter Susanne Reisser from Stockach-Wahlwies demonstrate that porcelain also exists in three dimensions and can therefore be designed in entirely different ways using colour and ingenuity. Her use of colour is harmonious, surprisingly modern and the results are exceptional. She usually works with four colours, which she mixes together to create her desired shades. And she fires her art herself. And she paints. Portraits and landscapes. This diverse art is on display here, ranging from landscapes on canvas to the flow of glaze on porcelain. Here, the small white porcelain Venus in black fishnet stockings reclines sensually on a gilded pedestal; there, Frida Kahlo gazes from the canvas with an inscrutable, pained expression. An award-winning large shell combines fish and flowers on its belly. On an extravagant vase nearly 50 cm tall, a colourfully decorated beauty gazes downwards with a lowered gaze. Original porcelain paintings in the style of Hundertwasser whet the appetite for more. Modern and classical works, painted and applied with a palette knife, are presented in great variety.
The evolution of the clock is presented by an absolute expert in this fascinating exhibition: master clockmaker Hubert Nold from Peißenberg. He knows his way around his little and large treasures. Among them is an absolute gem: a chapel clock dating from around 1600 to 1700 – the oldest piece in the collection. There are also pocket watches (starting with the spindle watch, first created around 1800), and wristwatches are on display, also from the early days, roughly from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. As a master of his craft, Hubert Nold sheds light on the development of timepieces, showcasing the full art of watchmaking and repair through the collection of around 20–30 examples.
